California Succeed Or Secede, Is That The Question?

California has been gouged by energy trading companies without recourse under the arcane rules imposed on them by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Then the Commission couldn't find any signs of price fixing when a child could see that the price per kilowatt could only have come from manipulated markets. Then, when they finally made a finding in favor of California, it was too late under the same arcane rules for California to receive substantial recompense. This is related to between twenty-five and forty billion in overcharges for electricity that was shuffled from state to state by the traders in order to maximize the price received. A more blatant case of illegal activity in a public market has not happened unless you count the bubble in our stock market. That bubble was largely created by phony values placed on stock by "Analysts". These were people whose pay depended on their positive valuation of any shares for sale by the brokers in their firm. Californians lost a lot of money in that little debacle. If you figure fourteen percent of the seven trillion dollars in losses, which is our share of the national economy, that makes Californian's losses around one trillion dollars. Nontrivial even if it is only a paper loss, but then US money is only paper.

California boasts the sixth largest economy in the world based on a phenomenal level of productivity per capita. The one trillion four hundred million dollar Gross Product (GP) produced in California is larger than any except five other economies in the world. It is done with a mere thirty five million people, which is amazing when you think about it. That requires production of over thirty thousand dollars in value per man woman and child in the State. For working that hard and that smart the good people of California are rewarded by a state deficit of thirty billion dollars. Most of that deficit is due to incoherent national fiscal policies, illegal activities in the electricity market and stock market and a general lack of concern about California exhibited by the Texas administration in control of Federal affairs. Californians are left with a large debt for electricity, which was used to steal their money and huge overcharges for gasoline. We pay more than twenty cents more per gallon than other states because we refuse to allow MTBE laden gas to further damage our groundwater. This is free market capitalism under George Bush and his cronies.

Now I am an old entrepreneur and have worked in several start-up companies and started a few myself. I believe in the free market passionately and am an advocate for a strong economy based on productivity. Unfortunately this game is rigged. Our Federal Government is being used to hide the inequitable use of illegal means to weaken productive economies around the nation and to absolve the thieves that benefit. Of course California does not stand alone, several other states are suffering the same kind of damage including New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Washington to name a few. Every state in the nation is in trouble and the hole will get deeper as time goes on unless something changes. Why is this happening? It is happening because, "Robber Baron", Capitalism is once again all the rage in our nation today. It is happening because our ethical and moral leaders are gamblers, liars, thieves and quasi-religious politicians. It is happening because these bumbling baboons of bifurcation are dividing the nation against itself for private economic and political gain and damaging this great nation seriously in the process. But what's new? Things have been like that before and they probably will be again. Unfortunately the people who really produce something are the ones who always pay the protected classes of thieves in this nation.

You may wonder by now who p------ in my cornflakes today and set me off on such a tear. Today is no worse than yesterday and may be better than tomorrow. That is precisely the problem, the truth is we will all have to do what we can to make things better and wait it out until enough of us catch on to the dirty game we are in. The only problem with that fact is I am sixty years old and I will probably not live to see things get better again. That is a really nasty bowl of cornflakes any way I look at it.

The best idea I can come up with is to have California start a secessionist movement so we can have another civil war. There are two possible outcomes of that process, enough states join us that we win politically or militarily, that is possible. Or else we lose and in fifty to a hundred years our descendents will be the swing-voting block in the nation, then it will be our turn. Unfortunately not very many people will get it that secession by creative and productive states from this union would leave a few great plains states linked to the Newt South with Texas on the top of the heap. Maybe we could get a little help from China and Japan, they are natural trading partners. Could we create the Productive States of The Pacific Rim? Hmm, maybe that is worth thinking about. God bless and keep you and all of us safe in these cheating, thieving, lying and trying times.
