Who Has Your Money? Well if you are one of the growing army of unemployed
in this nation nearly everyone but you has some of your money. So
how do you get it back? Don't rely on the government! They are not
going to help you out of this mess in our economy that has so many
people living without the dignifying power of work in their lives.
How a great nation like this can suffer such a downfall as we have
in the last three years is for historians to argue about. The truth
is over three million more people in the USA are out of work today
than were working at the end of the last century. Those numbers do
not really tell the whole story, millions more are underemployed and
millions beyond that are broke busted and disgusted enough to have
given up looking for work altogether.
What can you do about that problem? Well if you are one of those millions you can figure out how to create your own job or you can get progressively more broke until someone else creates one for you. Good luck if you are waiting around for the Bush Tax breaks to create your job for you. The largest amount of that money is going to people who will hold it in Real Estate Investments or Government Bonds for the foreseeable future. The stock market still looks unstable to most sophisticated investors. New companies, where most jobs are created, are not getting financed fast enough to have much impact. That leaves you with your future in your own hands. Nothing in this economic cycle is going to be affected positively by any of the government policies pursued by the Bush Administration. Government programs like tax breaks for the wealthy do not reprogram our economy quickly if at all. Yes they do leave more money in the hands of private parties, but most of that money goes out of circulation quickly into long-term secure investments. If the wealthy were foolish enough to spend money just to create jobs they would soon join the poorer classes. Long-term investments with a history of solid returns include Real Estate and Government Bonds. They do not include risky stocks in new companies. If ten percent of that tax break money makes its way into new business investment it would be extraordinary. Our State governments are broke and our local taxing authorities can barely cope with the cost of essential services. Manna from the government is not falling close to us any more. So how do you create work for yourself? First you take inventory of the skills and assets you own. Then you assess how much change in your life you are likely to tolerate. Finally you must regard your family, friends and community members as resources in an effort to make yourself a living without a job. How do I know this can work? I have been creating jobs for myself, and others, for the last twenty-five years. I helped build a company that employed eighty-five people with less than four hundred thousand dollars of investment capital in the first four years of operations. I have created other companies that employed myself, and others, and paid us all quite well during their existence. Most of these companies started as attempts at creating a job for myself. Few had any real substantial capital when they were born. So what is the secret behind that kind of a process? There are no secrets just sound practices in managing your resources. Money is one of the resources that can be used to start a business but if too much is made available too soon it is most often wasted. The Dot Bomb revolution ought to have taught us that lesson but such lessons seldom last beyond one generation. People are always essential resources in creating your own job, but you are your own best resource. What are your skills? What do you own? How can you preserve your cash while you are getting started? How do you sell your goods or services to your buyers? How do you deal with a life without a safety net? All good questions and we will answer them in the following pages. My partner in this project is my wife. She created a consulting business without capital and while working full time for a company, during her last job created by someone else over twenty years ago. She also owned a trucking company when I met her. Her trucking company had been bootstrapped through a single contract with a large makeup company. It employed over thirty people at the time we met. Her skills have been essential in all of our projects during our marriage. She is my greatest asset in any business I might start, as she is in my life. The people in your life are essential resources in creating your new independent existence. Don't wait for unemployment to strike, if you have a job now, start to create your new job, one that will never be exported or downsized. In every case a sound future for you and your family is in reach if you apply yourself to the task of creating your own job. Do it now! |
